The Pub Club (May 5): David Gang
May 5, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
David Gang is a plant biochemist from the Institute of Biological Chemistry (IBC) at Washington State University (WSU) (click here to read about David’s research). He will be visiting MSU to check out the MPS building and growth chamber facility to get ideas/feedback on a new plant sciences building in the works at WSU. He is also looking for feedback about what we like/dislike about the open design of MPS. TPC participating PI, Gregg Howe, thought The Pub Club would be an ideal format to facilitate this discussion, particularly as it relates to the mission of The Pub Club and what it takes to create an interactive and collaborative “Community of Minds.”
While having a building designed to promote interaction and collaboration among research groups is beneficial, it is not sufficient to achieve it! As alumna, Alyssa Burkhardt put it, “The Pub Club really served the floor and beyond to facilitate good interaction. I thought that kind of thing would just come naturally, but now I know that it doesn’t always.” This is a great opportunity for us to reflect on what it takes to build and maintain a positive Community environment, not only to ensure its continued cultivation here, but also to help others in our extended Community join us in building local communities of their own. To help stimulate your reflective process, take a few minutes to read through the TPC Testimonials collected for our recent TPC Centennial. Then, take a few minutes to write down a few thoughts of your own to share with David.
We will begin with science updates as usual, so come prepared with your science on the edge and your thoughts on how to build and maximize the benefits of a Community of Minds.
