The Pub Club (Feb 24): Your Research Statement – What’s the Big Idea?
February 24, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
There are three categories of job applicants: 1) the Qualified 2) the Competitive and 3) the Hired. Here at The Pub Club, we actively seek to Fill the Void to work our way to the Hired category. Effectively communicating the Relevance and Impact of our Research is an essential skill for us as scientists, whether we are actively applying for jobs, writing for fellowships & grants, managing our online identities or preparing for the upcoming conference season.
This Friday at The Pub Club, our PIs – Sheng Yang, Brad and Gregg – will help us develop our skill of highlighting the Big Ideas in our research by critically evaluating Research Statements from volunteer TPC members. As a part of our discussion, TPC PIs will also share insights regarding how to incorporate these statements into an application package that will help move us into the “Hired” category. To get the most out of this week’s Gathering, take some time to write up a draft of your Research Statement and bring it with you to TPC. You won’t want to miss this great opportunity to Fill the Void in your Research Communication Skills and help bring you one step closer to achieving your short and long term career goals.
Diverse Skills targeted: communication, research, critical thinking and creative thinking skills
