ICAR 2017 (June 20): Bethany Huot – Communication Workshop

June 20, 2017 @ 5:45 pm - 6:45 pm

As part of her #TPCOnTheRoad, TPC/TheCOM founder, Bethany Huot, will be taking her message to the ICAR2017 Conference in St. Louis. Bethany will be kicking off a Communication Workshop (shown below) with her presentation “Communication: Is This Thing On?” from 5:45-5:55 on Tuesday, June 20th. Last year, Bethany co-hosted a “Meet-Up” at PlantBio16 with Mary Williams (@PlantTeaching) to introduce the “Community of Minds” concept she had been developing back home at The Pub Club since 2014 (see podcast here). This year at ICAR, Bethany will be talking about the important role Communication plays in TheCOM – from local to global and from academic to public – or, as she says in her post by the same name: “We have to put a concerted effort in attaining and honing our ability to communicate. Unfortunately, often the greatest obstacle we face is ourselves. We read the overwhelming evidence that we must… yet the fear at the mere site of the mountain turns us away.” (post here) Bethany hopes that through this workshop she and the other presenters will convince you to brave that mountain knowing “NO ONE got to the top of Mount Everest in one leap” and “By the way, No One climbs Everest alone.  Let the ‘Community of Minds’ help.”

So, if you are going to ICAR, block this time out now. If you are from MSU (& quite a few are), support one of your own “Green and White” and, as we say here at TPC, “Actively Participate.”
