Plant Defense Research in the Spotlight

  • Science Says (The COM)

Holding Their Ground

To protect the global food supply, scientists want to understand—and enhance—plants’ natural resistance to pathogens.

By Amanda B. Keener | February 1, 2016

HoldingTheirGround_picThe Scientist Magazine Featured article for February 2016 highlights the important work being done to increase our understanding of plant defense.  Our very own Sheng Yang He is quoted in the article regarding work done by Pub Club member Li Zhang to identify mutations of the JA receptor, COI1, that disrupt interactions with the phytotoxin coronatine without interfering with JA signaling (Zhang et al., 2015, PNAS, 112:14354-59).  To read about this and work done by other big labs in our field–Jeff Dangl, Jonathan Jones, Sophien Kamoun and Xinnian Dong to name a few–click here.
