The Pub Club (May. 8th): Lunch with Phil Miklas, Phil McClean, and Tim Porch

Michigan is the second largest producer of dry beans in the United States, following North Dakota. As such, MSU is home to an extensive bean breeding program. Due to the local and global importance of common bean, the Plant Resilience Institute (PRI) is using Phaseolus vulgaris as one focal point of its research program. To work towards building our extended research network, PRI members have invited three of the most prominent researchers working with dry bean to visit MSU. Phil McClean is the Director of Genomics and Bioinformatics Program at North Dakota State University. Phil Miklas is a USDA-ARS adjunct research geneticist at Washington State University in Pullman. Tim Porch works for the USDA-ARS at the tropcial research station in Puerto Rico. Together, with researchers such as Jim Kelly, Karen Cichy, as well as many other collaborators, this team is working to improve bean lines across the world!

The Pub Club will be hosting a lunch with Phil, Phil & Tim, providing a unique opportunity for TPC members to engage each visitor about bean research as well as career strategies as each researcher holds a distinctive career position.
