The Pub Club (March 11): Hanae Kaku

March 11, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Research area: Biochemical characterization of chitin perception in rice.

Hanae’s research has focused on the identification and characterization of chitin (PAMP) perception in rice. Through this work, they have identified numerous signaling processes that are induced in response to chitin, including physical interactions between the chitin receptor and membrane-localized signaling components, including those required for additional PAMP signaling processes (e.g., flg22). In addition to her research activities, Hanae serves as Associate Dean of her College, focusing on International Partnerships and Collaboration. During her visit to MSU this March, Hanae will be visiting with numerous faculty and administrators to formalize a research agreement between MSU and Meiji University. Through this, MSU and Meiji will participate in reciprocal visits between East Lansing and Kawasaki (Tokyo), Japan.
