The Pub Club (June 9): Conference Prep Series – Poster Perfection
June 9, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Once we have developed our Networking strategy we will want to perfect our posters. Posters are a great way to capture the essence of the Big Ideas and Key Findings of our research. They are also a great way to develop our communication skills, as they involve oral, written and graphical communication! While it can be easy to detect the flaws in other peoples’ posters – too many words, pictures too big or too small, Big Ideas/Key Findings buried in the details – it can be difficult to objectively evaluate our own. The Pub Club is here to help by providing participants with the opportunity to screen each other’s posters for content & design. We will begin with a brief discussion on what makes a great poster, but will spend most of our time evaluating and providing critical feedback on each other’s posters.
Have a poster you would like evaluated? Great! Bring it on a flash drive (or a printed version if you have an older model you are updating). Don’t have a poster yet? No worries! You can learn a lot about what works and what doesn’t by evaluating and hearing critique from others. You won’t want to miss this great opportunity to develop your critical and creative thinking as well as your verbal, written and graphical communication skills. Hope to see you there!
The focus of both this and next week will be employing the art of Storytelling to make our Communication more effective. We will start off with this TEDMED Talk by Randy Olson. Feel free to watch before coming!
