In addition to our participation in PSF Recruitment, Miranda (Day lab) and Bethany (He lab) will be leading TPC’s second UG Career Day for those students who were unable to participate last semester.  UGs signed up to participate in this HHMI sponsored event will be preparing by reading some posts relating to Career Management and filling out the 3 surveys in the AAAS Individual Development Plan (IDP) to help them identify their 1) skills 2) interests and 3) values. They will then use this information to help them write a draft profile summary, which they will bring with them to the workshop.

During the workshop, we will discuss the value in Career Management and identify specific questions our UGs have regarding pursuing scientific careers. We will also go through the IDP so they can learn how to use this tool as they progress through the next phases of their careers. Finally, we will break into small groups to discuss and provide input on their individual profile summaries as well as address as many of their questions as possible. Your input as graduate students and post docs is essential for the success of this workshop, so come with your mentoring hats on!

Following the workshop, participating UGs will use your input to revise their profile summaries. We will be compiling the results from both sessions of our UG Career Days into a post, which will be published later this semester. If you supervise UGs who will be or have participated in our UG Career Workshop, please take some time to follow up with them regarding their progress towards the next phase in their career path.
