The Pub Club (Aug 4): Alyssa Preiser – pre-lim proposal prep
August 4, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
One of the primary functions of a “Community of Minds” (COM) is to help its members break free from the trap of “survival mode” and discover the “Good Life” that results from being active participants in a Community. As applied to scientists, each stage of our development has its own hurdles that we can either face alone or reach out to our COM to help us overcome. In graduate school, one of the most daunting challenges is the preliminary or comprehensive exam.
Alyssa Preiser (Sharkey lab) is working on preparing for her preliminary exam this coming fall. Part of this process entails writing a research proposal that explains the aims of her research and what steps she will take to achieve them. As she finalizes the outline for her work entitled “Characterization of Key Enzymatics and Metabolomics of the Glucose 6-Phosphate Shunt,” she is reaching out to the Community of Minds of TPC for critique of 1) her aims, 2) the rationale behind the project, and 3) experimental designs.
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to Fill the Void by honing your scientific research skills – along with your communication and critical evaluation skills – by joining us this Friday for another meeting on the edge of science. Hope to see you there!
