Seminar of Interest (Nov 3): Dr. Eva-Mari Aro

November 3, 2016 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Nathan Edward Tolbert Endowed Lectureship is an endowed lectureship that is part of the BMB Colloquium, supported by Dr. Tolbert’s many friends and colleagues as a tribute to his outstanding contributions to science.

This year, the Tolbert Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Eva-Mari Aro (University of Turku, Finland) on “Regulation of Oxygen Evolving Photosynthesis- Evolutionary Considerations.” Dr. Aro’s laboratory has become one of the most internationally recognized centers of photosynthesis research. During the past few years, the group has concentrated on researching how the photosynthesis process could be harnessed to produce clean, carbon dioxide free energy.

At the University of Turku, Eva-Mari Aro led the Centre of Excellence of the Academy of Finland, Integrative Photosynthesis and Bioactive Compound Research at Systems Biology Level from 2008 to 2013. She currently leads the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology of Primary Producers at the University of Turku with the University of Helsinki as main partner. Because of her contributions, Dr. Aro was selected as an Academy Professor for the period of 2014–2018.
