Seminar of Interest (May 8): Anton Lang Lecture – Dr. Richard Vierstra

May 8, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Dr. Richard Vierstra from Washington University in St. Louis will be delivering the Anton Lang Memorial Lecture this year. His research focuses on the structure, function and organization of the secretory pathway and organelles in higher plants.

“The Vierstra lab is attempting to understand how phytochromes work at the atomic level, using a variety of structure-based approaches such as X-ray crystallography and single-particle electron microscopy with both plant and microbial versions. His group is also studying two key degradative routes in plants, the ubiquitin/proteasome system (UPS) and autophagy, with the goals of understanding how they work, how they select targets, and how they function synergistically.”

The PRL/PLB Seminar Series “The Anton Lang Memorial Fund was established in honor of the founding director of the Plant Research Laboratory, who passed away in 1996. Proceeds from the fund go towards annually supporting the Anton Lang Memorial Lecture.”
