Seminar of Interest (Feb 20): Dr. Rachel Gallery

February 20, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Dr. Rachel Gallery from the University of Arizona will be sharing her research on “The Ecology of Soil Microbes: Predicting Activity and Feedbacks in Temperate and Tropical Forests.” This is a great opportunity for us to learn the big challenges in microbial ecology in tree systems, expanding our knowledge beyond plant-microbe pathosystem models that we currently utilize and study on our floor.

The Gallery Lab works “across a range of ecosystems from lowland Neotropical and high elevation conifer forests to semi-arid grasslands, our research group uses a combination of ecological experiments, microbiological techniques, and contemporary genetic and metagenomic tools to develop hypotheses to test the effects of plant-microbe interactions on plant community richness and species abundance, understand how environmental shifts will alter these interactions, and accurately predict the subsequent impacts on ecosystem function.”
